Google celebrates Edith Head’s 116th birthday today by honoring her with a doodle. Edith Head (October 28, 1897 – October 24, 1981) was an American costume designer who won eight Academy Awards, more than any other designer, and more than any other woman in Hollywood. Starting in 1924, she worked at Paramount Studios for 43 years before moving on to Universal Pictures in 1967. She produced costumes for a long list of actresses, which included Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis, Sophia Loren, Barbara Stanwyck, Shirley MacLaine, Anne Baxter, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor. Edith Head died in October 1981 from an incurable bone marrow disease.
